I won tickets this weekend to the premiere of Beasts of the Southern Wild at the London Film Festival. I was invited to the pre-drinks party with the director Benh Zeitlin and actress Quvenzhane Wallis. Benh was really lovely and he took the time to chat to me and my friend. Quvenzhane was really excited to be in London and she and Benh have a really great relationship - they joked around like brother and sister. I still can’t believe I met them.
Benh is such a great talent and he really has found something special in Quvenzhane. Her performance was outstanding. The film is magical and illuminated with the creative mind of a child. The opening scene is exciting and free and we see how grateful these are people are to live in the bayou, but suddenly reality hits and we are faced with their everyday struggles for food and survival. It’s hard to pin down what genre the film really is because it’s a cross between fantasy and social realism.
The auditorium was packed and i can see why. If Beasts is showing at a cinema near you, go see it! It’s on general release Oct 19th.
