The restoration is amazing and I have the utmost respect and admiration for the people at the NFPF for restoring and allowing the world to see it for free! The score is incredible. It is performed by Michael D. Mortilla (score, piano, and percussion) and Nicole Garcia (violin). An inspiring and wonderful addition to Hitchock’s oeuvre.

I finally managed to see The Artist at my local cinema before it went off. I absolutely adore silent cinema and so i was completely biased from the start, but may I say what is on everyone’s lips: What an outstanding and totally daring film this is! To release, or even make, a silent film today is so risky and the filmmakers have pulled it off with honours. It’s both classic and modern, touching on a period of film history that was very important - the transition from silent cinema to talkies.
With all this 3D nonsense going on it is great to see a modern film take on classic traditions. it is superbly acted and an absolute joy to watch.
I also swear that at one point the music took on Bernard Hermann’s swelling score from Alfred Hitchock’s Vertigo. I was planning to look it up when i got home but forgot to do so. Must report back with this fact!
